I read three books in April. With the stress of the pandemic I’m amazed that I read that much.
Easily Amused by Karen McQuestion. In this book the main character inherits a house from her great aunt. She meets the perfect guy. She deals with her competitive sister. Her best friend breaks up with his girlfriend and moves in. Spoiler alert: everything turns out OK. I give this book two out of five stars.
The Other Family by Loretta Nyhan. This novel is about a woman dealing with the breakup of her marriage and the severe allergies of their daughter. The mother was adopted and has never met her birth family. In an attempt to learn more about her health history she reaches out to a birth relative. Family relationships are explored, often at the expense of family members. This book was an enjoyable read, and had me cheering for main characters. I give this book four out of five stars.
Red, White, and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. In this cute romance novel the son of the president cannot stand the Prince of Whales, but when they are forced to spend time together they find out they have loved each other all along. It was interesting to learn that the mistake love as hate until you are kissed by your enemy plot is a part of male male romance novels too. I give this book three out of five stars.
Are you reading anything? Are you able to focus on serious novels? I don’t have much focus right now, but I do have more focus than I did a month ago, so there is that.
I’m reading a bit, but not enjoying it. I long for our library to open. The city suggests that this may happen on May 18th.

I love your book reviews. I’m reading The Mirror and the Light by Hillary Mantel. It’s the third book in the Wolf Hall series. Tudor nerd alert!

I really need to read more about the Tudors, as I know nothing about them.

I like the sound of Red, White and Royal Blue. I’m currently wading through a Game of Thrones book – it will last me a few months.

I reccomend taking a break to read Red, White, and Royal Blue. You could read it in a day.

I started two novels, but I am not making progress. I think I should have borrowed some humorous books from the library when things were on the verge of closing.

I started reading my serious novel again last night. I’m not sure it will last, but for now I’m happy to be able to concentrate on something other than romance novels.

I really enjoyed Different Class by Joanne Harris. I could see a lot of the teachers I’ve known in the main character.

I’ll have to check that one out.

I really enjoy your book reviews! I have been rereading through books on my shelves – it’s all part of my general decluttering. I’m rereading all the books I’m not sure are keepers and making stay or go decisions. It gives me the illusion I’m getting things done 🙂

That is a really good idea.

Thanks! I don’t know if it will result in a reduction of our books. But even if not, I know for sure I want to keep everything that’s still left afterwards 🙂

I’ve definitely not been reading as much as usual either. We will see if that changes with going back to the classroom.

I just read a book that I’d recommend for this time as it had some topics that could lead to deep thoughts if you want it to, but was also light and frothy enough that I finished it in two days — “The Authenticity Project” by Clare Pooley,

Thank you! I just placed a request on Libby from my library. I’m happy I can get the audio book.
