This week is simultaneously dragging and flying. I cannot explain it, other than to say I have no idea what day it is.

Do you remember The Song that Never Ends? These are the socks that never end. If I don’t keep working on them they will go into a knitting bag never to be seen from again, so I keep plugging away on them. I am to the gusset of the second sock, so there is light at the end of the tunnel. I’ve pulled out the yarn for my next playground socks in the hope that it will inspire me to get working on these.

I cast on a pair of Twizzler socks to work on while we watch the Tour. We still have five stages to watch, so I should make some good progress on these before they become normal socks that I can work on whenever I want. I love this pattern, which is really easy to memorize. The yarn, which I bought at Iowa Sheep & Wool Festival this year, is beautiful to work with. I’m using 100% SW BFL for these socks, so they probably won’t last long, but they will be lovely while they are here.

I said I wasn’t going to buy fabric until my trip in September, but something came up. The Iowa State Fair is going on right now, which is a huge deal. I normally don’t go, as I find it expensive, exhausting, and annoying, but this year I’m going. My friend is taking me to see Hootie & the Blowfish and Barenaked Ladies, two great bands I loved in college. I decided if I’m going to the fair I need a state fair dress, so I went to the store to find some hot dog fabric. Then things got out of hand.

I do have some unexpected time to sew, as I cancelled our trip to Cedar Falls this week. Yesterday Elliot was hit in the teeth in a backyard swing/running Elliot collision. He is OK, but his lip is swollen and he is clearly in pain. Last night his tooth was loose, but it is OK now. So, not a great reason to have extra craft time, but I’ll take it.

No, it is not actually Wednesday, but we got home late last night from watching Spiderman and I forgot to post. Have you seen Spiderman yet? It was really good.

Anywhooo…..I’ve really only worked on socks this week. My TDF France are slowly moving along. We’ve only had time to watch two stages this week. I’m done with the gusset of the second sock. I love how these socks are turning out. They are smooshy and the yarn is nice to work with.

I’ve decided I don’t like my playground socks. The yarn is a little rough, and I don’t love the colors. I was really excited about these socks for the first leg, but I’m now at the point where I’m ready to be done with them and move on to yarn I’m excited to work with.

I have not been knitting much this summer. I have been walking at parks instead of knitting at parks. It has been lovely, but I have been making slow progress on my projects.

WIP Update

I missed my normal WIP Wednesday post yesterday. My in-laws babysat so John and I walked to sushi and then to our neighborhood downtown to get a drink. We ended up on a rooftop patio of a restaurant and enjoyed how great how neighborhood is. Please note that the bar serves vodka tonics with huge straws, so it was weird to drink vodka through a smoothie straw. Also, my husband is not Amish, he just shaved his beard like that as a joke and keeps forgetting to shave. I’ve started calling him Mose in the hopes that he will shave.

I have not made much progress on my knitting this week, mostly because I can’t motivate myself to do much other than sew. My playground socks are creeping along, as I keep forgetting to throw them in my purse.

My TDF socks are moving along. We are several stages behind, so these should see some progress again soon. I should have gone up a needle size for these socks, the fabric is very dense. They will be comfortable, but may be too thick to wear in shoes.

I pulled my shawl out to get started on it again. It is slow going, but it feels good to be working on it again.

I am currently sewing a dress for Audrey. There are a lot of steps to this, and I’m not sure I’m up for the challenge, but I’m giving it a try.

I had to run to JoAnn because I forgot to buy bias tape or buy enough fabric to make my own. I ended up buying fabric for four more projects. I have a problem. Meanwhile, the kids love picking out fabric for shorts.

I haven’t been knitting much lately. The only thing I have worked on this week (other than my blanket) is this pair of rainbow socks. I have the first sock done. I did a short row heel, which is not my favorite. I’m going to have to go in and tighten the stitches where the heel starts and ends because there are little holes there.

My goal is to finish these before the end of pride month. There is a lot of playground knitting to be done this month, so that should not be a problem.

I haven’t spent much time knitting this week, but I do have a bit of progress to show.

My socks continue to plug along. I should finish the gusset tomorrow (I’ll have a half hour of swim lesson knitting time to focus on the sock). If I put my mind to it I should be able to finish these by next Wednesday. The weather is beautiful here, so if I remember to throw my knitting in the stroller I will probably get some park knitting done this week.

I’ve been working on my Northeasterly a fair amount this week. I wanted to get the first stripe to 60 inches (I plan to make this a sixty inch square blanket) because I wanted to have an easy visual to check the size. I really like how this blanket it turning out. I’ll probably need to take a break from it before too long so I can knit something with worsted weight yarn to create some scraps. I love how cozy this blanket is, it will be perfect to snuggle under and watch movies in winter (whenever I finish it).

I think I might cast on a fun project to take my mind off of the shawl kerfuffle. We shall see.
