I spent some time to day working on a merino spin from Yarn and Dogs in the Sea Glass colorway. I’ve now spun with enough breeds to know that I don’t love spinning merino. I love knitting with it and wearing it, but I would rather spin BFL. I have two 100 g braids of this fiber, so I’ll be working on it for a week or two.

I’m also working on a spin with Audrey. We bought some raw fleece at the orchard we spend all fall exploring. I washed it and Audrey has been carding it. We’ve both been spinning it. The wool is not great, but it is a fun project to do with Audrey. She has requested to dye it yellow with marigolds and wear it to the orchard next fall.

I hope you had a cozy Sunday enjoying your hobbies.
I hate spinning top that has silk in it. So hard to draft! I had a great fleece of Corriedale once that I blended with dog down from a husky: best spin ever! Crazy what works and what doesn’t.

I find myself looking at so many things and wondering if I could spin it. My dog has short hair, or else I would try it. I also look at cottonwood fluff and think it should be spun.

Cottonwood fluff is hard to get where I live because the female trees are outlawed. Life in an urban environment. Hmm… could it be blended in with another longer fiber and then spun?

I can pack up cottonwood and send it to you. I’m allergic to it, but it is so fluffy I’m still tempted.

Oh, no. My days of adventurous spinning are now gone because… scleroderma. I’m going to try to get a few last projects done and then I plan to sell or donate my looms and spinning wheels. 😦

That is heartbreaking. Scleroderma is the pits, to say the least.

I’m not a fan of merino either. I won some during Tour de Fleece that I did spin 2 years ago and haven’t spun any since. I enjoy BFL too.

The yarn you are spinning is beautiful! So cool that Audrey is learning to spin from you – and she has a great project goal too!

She wants to spin so badly she gets mad at me when I don’t let her use the wheel.

I don’t know why I’m numbering things, probably because I haven’t finished my first cup of coffee and I feel like I need structure. 6. The orchard yarn looks good!

1. I do too! It’s one of my best thrifted finds. 2. I can’t wait to see it either. I hope we have enough. 3. Have I ever told you when I cook with the kids I have to stop myself from being frustrated and yelling “we’re making magical fucking memories!”? 4. I hope she does, because I would like someone to make custom pants for me. 5. I love numbering things. 6. Thank you, I am ready to be done spinning it. It is still full of VM.
