I finally got to the steek on my Arachne sweater. I was really nervous as I’ve never steeked a sweater before. I made a short video of the steeking, but realized that maybe having a 5 year old do the videography and a 4 year old say random things in the background might not make the best knitting video. It is short, but you can see me steek the first couple of inches.
I did a crocheted steek, which was very tricky on the black portion of the sweater. I was having a lot of trouble with the crochet, but then I told Marilee how horrible it was and after that conversation it was really easy.
Now that I’m past the scary part I should just get to work on the button bands. I might take a bit of time before I do that though, as I’m recovering from the emotional rollercoaster of cutting my knitting.
Your assistants just added to the experience of watching. Cute! Good work on the steek. I have not felt advanced enough to try it yet.

I thought I would never steek, but now that I’ve done it I’ll do it again. That’s how much I dislike purling.

Well, you do have a REALLY good point!

The first one is the most frightening, but it gets easier each time!

That is good to know. I love not having to purl, and the overall tension is better too. I’ll be doing it again.

I have decided my favorite is a 7 stitch steek and multi stitch zig zag with the sewing machine. It’s pretty darn quick.

I was worried about the tension for a sewn steek. I should have just sewn up my swatch, but I was terrified. I think I’ll try that next time.

Your sweater looks fantastic! I so enjoyed the video:) I now have voices to hear when I read your posts. I loved Audrey’s running commentary about your sweater:) She caught the important details!

She loves to talk about the spider sweater. I didn’t realize she would take it upon herself to narrate.

I’m so impressed that you steeked for the first time with both children around! I think I would have needed complete solitude. Still, they did add something to the video! 🙂 And the sweater looks amazing.

I may have kicked them out of the kitchen right after the video ended…

Doing a steek is on my list but so far I haven’t been brave enough. You did great!

I love how she has a commentary on the spider insets in the pockets. With a little practice I’m thinking professional.
