WIP Wednesday

Winter hasn’t really kicked in with cold weather yet, but my brain is totally in winter mode. I just want to hang out and craft. It’s hard to get the kids outside to play, which is not good for them, but it is really good for my knitting productivity.

I cast on my January project last Friday. I’m making John the Bikey Beany from Alterknit. I don’t have much experience with colorwork, and I’m hoping to change that this year. I really enjoyed knitting the bikes, but now I’m at the boring part of the hat. I’m hoping to get to the crown decreases today, because I need more than stockinette in the round to keep the project interesting at this point.

I knit about an inch on my shawl this week. I am enjoying it, I just haven’t made time to pick it up.

I am making progress on John’s socks. Swim lessons start again tomorrow, so these will probably be going in the swim bag and worked on once a week. Or I’ll become obsessed with them and have them done by next week. There is very little middle ground in my knitting.

I’m apparently having a very blue January.

What are you working on this month? Do you have an unexpected color theme too?

  1. Your colorwork looks wonderful! I just pushed the button to order yarn for my Orkney. I changed the colors so I hope it works! I don’t care if I can only knit one row a day, I’m going to start it when it arrives!

  3. Your projects are all going great! The hat is looking really cool 🙂 And you definitely are having a blue January 🙂 I’ve got more red going on in my knitting right now than I normally would.

  4. That hat is so cool. I’m so in awe of people who can do colorwork and make it look good; mine looked like poo when I tried it! I think it’s funny that you call in the boring part of the hat–that’s one of the things I love about making hats!

    1. I’m trying to get better at colorwork, but I feel like I’m only making baby steps. Normally I don’t mind that part of hats, but 200 stitches on size 2 needles really makes things feel slow. I like hats because they are fast, and small needles slow me down.
