I know that it is January.
I know that it is supposed to be cold.
I get that.
I accept that….usually.
The kids haven’t left the house in three days though, and we’re all going crazy. It is so bad I actually scheduled a play date for today, even though it is really too cold to leave the house. My plan was to warm up the car and then put the kids in a warm car to drive to our friends house to let them run and play and burn off energy. That didn’t happen though, it is too cold to start my car. This is just one more reason I wish we had an attached garage.
I’m trying to keep the kids busy with different activities. They are used to being on the go all of the time, so being at home is not something they are used to.
At first it wasn’t hard to keep them happy at home. Santa was very good to them this year, so they had lots of new toys to play with. The novelty of new toys has now worn off. Today Elliot tried to put on his shoes and was crying to go see the water tower. It is hard to explain to a 1 1/2-year-old that it is too cold to go outside.
I made play dough today. Audrey loves helping me in the kitchen. She is a great bakers assistant, but I can’t bake cookies or bread every day if I want to continue to wear pants, so I thought we would try playdough. It was crazy easy. Had I know it would take 5 minutes to make I would have made it the last time we were stuck inside for a stretch. I added lavender essential oil because I am trying everything I can think of to keep the kids calm. It might not do anything for them, but I find it soothing myself, so there is that.
There is a high of 14 tomorrow. That won’t be so bad. My car should start. Audrey has swimming lessons, so we’ll be busy and on the go all day. Just as we like it.
How are you surviving in this frigid weather?
This cold weather is insane and to make it worse my son doesn’t go back until Jan. 8. That is way to long of a break for a preK student. Every day he cries that he wants to go to school! Hope it warms up soon for both of us!
