Happy Wednesday! I don’t have any finished objects this week, but I hope to have one finished next week. I’ve been getting a lot of knitting done, mostly because we live in a house with creaky floors and Audrey is refusing to sleep at nap time so I usually sit still so she doesn’t hear me moving and ask me for water or books or anything else. Sitting still is good for knitting. I suppose it could also be good for blogging if I ever got up the gumption to write more. Perhaps someday soon that will change, but for now I just knit.
I haven’t made much progress on the weather map socks. I have finished the gusset, so that is some progress. I guess I haven’t been knitting around John much, and when I have I’ve picked up the stocking (what with the holiday season looming and all).
The socks for John, which I bought thinking was fingering weight Bears yarn is worsted yarn that screams Broncos orange instead of Bears orange. Hopefully John doesn’t notice. At least the socks are going quickly. It’s a simple pattern, and if I make them again I’m going to add a cable or a pattern or something because they are really boring to knit. It doesn’t help that I am a Packers fan and personally hate the Bears.
The stocking is progressing. I have high hopes for finishing this stocking before next week and casting on the next one. The only thing that might slow me down is the 800 million ends I’ll need to sew in. I’ll also be stitching a name on to the top where the large chunk of cream is. I find color work fiddley, and I’m not great at having the right tension. I love the color work design on this pattern, but I don’t love the heel directions. This is the third time I’ve made a stocking from this book and the third time I’ve ripped out what the directions say and just worked a short row heel with wraps and turns. The pattern calls for yarn overs instead and I can’t figure out how to knit them back in and have them look nice. I could look it up, I suppose, but I would rather just do what I know how to do and move on.
Any guesses on if I try the heel as written on the next stocking or if I go rouge with short row shaping?
